Troubleshooting Issues with Victor Autogate in Damansara Heights
We received a call from a resident in Damansara Heights. Few years ago, we had repaired his younger brother’s autogate, which happened to be from Legate Autogate. Now, he’s facing issues with his own Victor autogate. The problem is that it can open outward without any trouble, but when it attempts to close, it only goes about 70% of the way before coming to a halt. Additionally, when strong winds blow, the autogate tends to open by itself, causing him some concern. Many times, the autogate suddenly opened wide by itself. People passing by would look at his house because of this strange thing. Even security guards came to his house and rang the doorbell to tell him about it.
Replacing Obsolete Victor Autogate
He decided to replace the autogate system with the same model. But, we explained to him that it is already obsolete. We still have one new unit, but we don’t recommend it because he may have trouble finding spare parts in a few years. Getting spare parts for underground autogates is currently quite difficult, and the cost is quite high. After the phone call, we called a few autogate suppliers. Finally, we called the company that makes the Victor to check, and they told us they aren’t making them anymore. Just for your information, Victor, PowerGates, G-Force, Home Access, and CEI are all made by the same company.
Solving Pillar Size Issue for “ALL”Swing Autogate Installation
We suggested using our KRON 929 Swing autogate system, and he liked its features and reliability. But, he’s facing another issue: his pillars are too small to mount the autogate swing arm bracket. While we can modify and add metal brackets, it’s likely that the pillars will eventually crack. It is important to keep in mind that when it comes to mounting swing arm autogate brackets, a minimum of 10 inches of space is required.
Some unethical autogate installers might try to convince you to pay more for extra brackets to support the autogate swing arm. But we strongly advise against this because it can cause cracks in your wall. This is especially true in Malaysia, where most pillar walls are not entirely made of concrete.
Stop Creating Problems for Yourself
If homeowners have experienced pillar wall cracks or vibration problems before, they may choose to use concrete when building their pillars. Only inexperienced homeowners might decide to rely on the expertise of their wet work contractor or renovator, who may suggest using red bricks or sand bricks for the pillar construction. This way can save them a significant amount of time and effort. Homeowners could encounter difficulties in the near future if they experience issues, and the wet work contractor or renovator is unresponsive or doesn’t take responsibility. It’s your house, so you get to decide. We’re here to offer our advice based on our experiences, but we can’t make decisions or criticize the renovator.
A Long-Term Fix for Those Without Concrete Pillars
We advised him on a permanent solution, which involves creating a “concrete box up” with reinforced bars. This approach would prevent any issues with wall cracking and ensure the durability of the KRON autogate swing arm for many years to come. this box up is more professional and can easily last 30 years, but not every owners willing to do it. It would require some additional work, which not every owner may be willing to do. To them, having an automatic gate isn’t essential. If they can have autogate system installed easily, they’ll go ahead, but they’re not interested in doing any extra work for it. This is our malaysian mentality.
Many homeowners are surprised when they face issues with their walls cracking, and their autogate arms falling over.
Finally He Chose To Install KRON 929 Autogate
After a long discussion, he chose to install our KRON 929 autogate system, and he plans to have his contractor build a small “ concrete box up” for mounting his swing arm autogate. His next door neighbor is currently renovating their house, so he can easily get the materials from there. This concrete box up should be done quickly, likely in just a few hours. Before you call an autogate installer to set up your autogate, double-check that your pillars are big enough to hold the autogate arm brackets.
